Roof Vent Exercise

In this exercise, you will build a connected roof vent. Once a specified temperature has been reached, the Home Yún signals the Control Yún and allows it to open the vent.

You will build a test version and once it runs correctly, you will then add it to the other devices connected to the Home Yún.

Materials:

  • Arduino Yún
  • 9x jumper wires
  • One RGB LED
  • Breadboard
  • Push button
  • 10k resistor (The colors on it are brown ,black, orange and gold)
  • Solenoid
  • Transistor
  • 150k resistor (The colors on it are brown ,green , black, orange and brown)

Assembling the MDF components

  1. Fit solenoid into bracket

  1. Construct the MDF parts to hold the solenoid.
  2. Open “e3_roofvent_test” from the examples.
  3. Upload the sketch to your Control Yún.
  4. Open the Serial Monitor and test the vent opening and closing.
  5. If it works, disconnect the window vent section and connect it to the Home Breadboard Unit according to the overlay.
  6. Construct the MDF parts to hold the solenoid.
  7. Open “e3_roofvent_test” from the examples.
  8. Upload the sketch to your Control Yún.
  9. Open the Serial Monitor and test the vent opening and closing.
  10. If it works, disconnect the window vent section and connect it to the Home Breadboard Unit according to the overlay.
